Most of Hinshaw's pieces are simultaneously disturbing and playful, which instantly caught my attention. The relatively natural forms of his works, from cows and rabbits to skulls, are aspects that I enjoy incorporating into my work whenever possible. The similarity in tone of our pieces is just an added benefit I wanted to springboard off of.
I combined the ideas of the skull and cow into one when creating the main vessel, which also reminisces on Midwestern American culture in the same way Hinshaw takes inspiration from American folk lore. Although the form is more realistic than most of Hinshaw's work, the same disturbing-yet-playful tone was achieved by adding a little cowboy hat atop the lid.
